Skinner’s football career at Wake Forest can be likened to that of Lou Gehrig. Lou Gehrig stepped in for Wally Pipp, a 15-year veteran for the NY Yankees, the day Pipp got a headache. Gehrig started the next 2,130 games for the Yankees. As a freshman in 2006 Skinner stepped in for the injured Ben Mauk and led the Demon Deacons to a 10-2 regular season and their first ever Atlantic Division title and championship of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
After that season Riley was named the 2006 ACC Rookie of the Year. In 2007 he led the ACC in passing efficiency and set the conference record for completion percentage in a season.
Riley enters the 2009 campaign as the winningest quarterback in school history with 26 wins and within reach of Wake Forest’s career records for attempts, pass completions, passing touchdowns, yards passing and total offense.
