I must admit that I develop positive or negative feelings about a school based on their uniforms. I know that if I haven’t traveled to a particular school then the only piece of data I have in my subconscious is how a school presents themselves on TV. In his book Blink, Malcolm Gladwell refers to this concept as Thin Slicing — forming an opinion about someone or something within just a few seconds based on events learned over a lifetime.
This seems pretty intuitive. I mean most of us base our first impressions on a number of learned environmental factors. Unless we get to know that person or place better then that first impression may never change. That’s why I don’t understand why a school of higher learning would allow for some of these ugly ass uniforms. As fans and followers of sports we do form an opinion of a school based on the uniform, colors, mascot, etc…
So I decided to rank the schools with the worst uniforms based on the feeling and impression I get from them. Here’s the list:
#5 Mississippi State - By far the worst uniforms in the SEC. I know life sucks in Starkville Mississippi and they are ranked in the bottom of just about everything but the Bulldogs uniforms are just plain, …well just plain. The colors aren’t too bad but it appears they run out of money before finishing the logo. Seriously, your mascot is the Bulldogs and all you can come up with is an “M” with State across it? Lame.
#4 Minnesota – Maroon and Gold, really? Those just aren’t two colors that go well together. The only reason they weren’t rated worse is Gopher hottie Eric Decker. 
#3 Iowa State – Basically the same puke ass colors as Minnesota. And just like Mississippi State there’s not much to envy with the logo.
#2 Kansas State – It’s hard to make Gray look bad but the Wildcats managed to pull it off by combining it with Royal Purple. Never seen a purple wildcat before — not sure I want to. 
#1 Florida A&M – It’s bad enough that your mascot is a snake but it’s not even a scary one like a Cobra or Python. What does a Rattler do besides make noise? I guess they were going for something similar to the Miami Dolphins color scheme but they missed badly.
