The NCAA is considering a rule change that would allow officials to remove players from games if they show signs or symptoms of a concussion. The NFL moved recently to toughen the standards on when players are allowed to return after experiencing concussion-like symptoms.

With all of the science recently regarding the long-term effects of concussions on the human brain, subtracting the coach from medical decision is a step in the right direction. For as long as there has been football there have been coaches who’ve tried to keep all types of injuries, including concussions, from being disclosed to both medical personnel and the media because it might impact the outcome of a game.

Of course, then there’s Mike Leach who, after a players he deems a slacker is concussed, he penalizes by confining them to a small room and, according to sworn affidavits, lies about it to cover his tracks.

Knowing this, Dr. David Klossner, the NCAA’s Director of Health and Safety, should title the new rule, ‘The Leach Rule’. It’s an appropriate name and a lasting legacy for a coach who let his personal feelings and prejudices stand in the way of a player’s safety.

More about the Mike Leach story.

Mike Leach is Friggin Nuts

Texas Tech University officials suspended head coach Mike Leach on Monday while the school investigated complaints from sophomore wide receiver Adam James, son of ESPN college football analyst Craig James, regarding how he was treated after being diagnosed with a concussion by team doctors.

Put your guns down Mike and start packing

And so how does Tech head coach Mike Leach demonstrate leadership during what is sure to be a trying time for Texas Tech? Leach’s solution was to get all lawyered up and file a motion for a temporary restraining order against the university. That’s some leader of men they got there in Lubbock.

So say goodbye to Mike Leach Tech fans because he’s done in Lubbock.

Let’s try to understand Leach’s logic here, first Adam James should accept whatever discipline handed down by the head coach without reservation and secondly whenever my boss (Texas Tech University) decides to discipline me, I should act like a spoiled brat and file a lawsuit? Brilliant!

Furthermore, Leach allows his attorney to question the injury and defame the character of a 21-year old kid by calling him a slacker and claiming James was disgruntled. A player gets a concussion and his head coach thinks he’s faking it so he directs trainers to keep him in a shed the size of a one-car garage in which he’s directed not to sit down for at least two hours?!?

What’s the lesson he’s supposed to learn from that you asshole? Don’t get hurt in practice? Gone are the coaches like Bear Bryant and the days when you could treat a player like shit for no other reason than it makes you feel better, you puny man.

What’s clear is that Mike Leach is no leader of young men, not just for his initial screw up but for the way he’s handled the situation after he was asked to address it.

Good riddance Mike Leach. Note to any school thinking of hiring this self-infatuated fuck chop, don’t.

UPDATE: Leach was fired with cause and took to attacking his former player in this ESPN interview.

And then, the trainers for Texas Tech contradicted the statements made by Leach in sworn affidavits.
