His 87-yard touchdown catch with just 11 seconds left on Sunday provided a 12-7 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, but Miracle pass catcher Brandon Stokley is used to overcoming long odds.
As a sophomore in high school Stokley decided against a career in football due to his size. At 5-4 and 115 lb. he figured that baseball or basketball may better suit his size. However a new football coach, thinking Brandon may excel in a new spread offense, asked Stokley to try out.
In college he played for four years for his dad at Southwestern Louisiana (now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) where he caught passes from quarterback Jake Delhomme.
As he enters his 10th season, Stokley now stands tall at 6 feet, 193 pounds. He has been a part of two Super Bowl champions: Baltimore in 2000 (XXXV) and Indianapolis in 2006 (XLI).
And on Sunday he happened to be in the right place at the right time and has given Broncos’ fans something to cheer about after a summer full of drama bad news.
