A couple of days ago we put together our list of the worst college football uniforms. College football fashionistas — yes, there are some — from across the land bombarded our inbox with nominations for the best uniforms; and while I appreciate the photos of football players, most of the fashion commentary was lost on me.
So without further delay here’s the SportsFags list of the Top 5 Best College Football Uniforms.
#5 UCLA - There’s something about UCLA Blue and California Gold that works well for the Bruins; although the school’s official blue is darker than what appears on their uniforms we think they made the right decision. And besides, bears love the cuddly lil’ Bruin mascot.

#4 SMU – After 20+ years of exile the Mustangs, or Ponies as they are known around Dallas, are finally in the Top 5 again. Too bad it’s for fashion and not football. The Ponies combination of Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue looks awesome at night when they play in front of 400 people at the new Gerald Ford stadium. Plus, they got a black Shetland Pony named Peruna.

Here’s where it gets really tough.
#3 University of Georgia – No one does the Bulldogs like Georgia. Their official colors are red and black, but when the Dawgs go all black at night between the hedges those Southern boys go crazy; the liquor may have something to do with it, and don’t forget about Uga, their feisty bulldog, roaming the sidelines, pissing and pooping all over the place.

#2 Penn State – The Nittany Lions are named after mountain lions that once populated nearby Mount Nittany. Their uniforms are simple blue and white, classic and understated, which reflects the work man like approach they take to football and life in Western Central PA.

#1 Notre Dame – Whether you love them or hate them as a football team the Navy Blue and Gold of Notre Dame is synonomous with college football. Their nickname is the Fighting Irish and they’ve got an angry-ass Leprechaun as their mascot.

Sporn Alert
Plus, who can forget that Brady Quinn used to sweat up that uniform, although he looks pretty good with it off too. OK, I know that was just an excuse to put a shirtless photo of Brady Quinn in the post.

Really like some of the newer uniforms on the go these days. Oregon has 400+ combinations from Nike with their uniforms. I’m a Boise State alumn, so dig their uniforms as well.
The Under Armour uniforms like Texas Tech are pretty hot as well, though, the UA company tends to be homophobic.
Cheers!
Thanks for that picture of Brady Quinn! Uniforms??? Uh, does Brady Quinn shave his entire body? MMmmmmmmmmmmmm
I only hope you’ll give college hoops this much love…
haha, absolutely. big UNC and Aubrun fan here. i need some help in coming up with a list of the top ten hotties in college hoops if you got any suggestions.
Check back with me after Dick Vitale’s first bleating of the season!

As a PSU alum, I loved it that the sacred Nittany Lions made it as number two on your list of the best college uniforms, however, State College is in Central Pennsylvania … not western. In fact, State College is located in Centre County … sorry mate, but that’s your geography lesson for the day. By the way, I love your blog.
Great picks! A shirtless Quinn is always a good choice. As a UCLA football season ticket holder I am glad we at least made the top 5.
