Northern Illinois Huskie QB Chandler Harnish is looking to build upon a freshman campaign in which he led the Huskies in both passing and rushing. Harnish’s game is perfectly suited for the MAC, where offense rules. The Huskies rely on Harnish offensively as much as the Lakers rely on Kobe Bryant. It’s safe to say the Huskies will go as far as Chandler Harnish can take them this season.
After a redshirt year in 2007, Harnish started nine games for the Huskies in 2008. NIU finished the regular season with a 6-6 record and loss to La. Tech, 17-10, in the Independence Bowl. He set an NIU freshman record with 2,067 total yards, including 1,528 passing. Harnish also rushed for a team high 539 yards and did not throw an interception in his first four games.
In 2009, the Huskies step out of conference to take on Big 10 powers Wisconsin on Sept. 5 and Purdue on Sept. 19. These two contest along with a home game against Western Michigan and a late season road trip to MAC West favorite Central Michigan on Nov 27 may not only determine who wins the MAC West but also if the Huskies go bowling again this season.
Harnish has a rugged handsomeness that complements his Midwestern small town good looks. It took a long time but we found one photo of a shirtless Chandler Harnish throwing the football.
